TIFAC, originally established on 10th February, 1988, as a Society with Registration no. S/18632 of 1988 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, was decided to be closed by the Government of India. The Cabinet's decision for closure was made on 12th November, 2025, with a directive to complete the exercise within six months. All necessary closure actions have been completed, and TIFAC officially stands closed with effect from 8th December, 2025. The Technology Development Board (TDB), New Delhi, operating under the Department of Science and Technology, has been entrusted to manage all residual administrative matters, remaining activities and programs, ongoing legal cases, fund recovery, and royalty/profit reception.

S/18632 of 1988 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. It was further directed that the closure exercise be completed within a period of 6 months from the date of decision of the Cabinet i.e. 12.11.2025. 2. Pursuant to the decision, all the necessary actions for closure of TIFAC have been completed and it stands closed w.e.f. 08.12.2025.
