Exercising powers under clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011 (11 of 2011), the Central Government (Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs) issued G.S.R. 714(E) dated 19th November 2024, notifying the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab) Rules, 2024, effective from the date of publication. The rules authorize minting of a One Hundred Twenty Five Rupees commemorative coin, circular, 44 millimetre diameter, with 200 serrations, composed of a quaternary alloy (50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, 5% zinc), with a standard weight of 35 grams (remedy of 1/500th in silver composition and 1/100th in weight, i.e. 34.65 to 35.35 grams). The obverse bears the Lion Capitol of the Ashoka Pillar with the legend Satyameva Jayate, the Devanagari word for India, the English word INDIA, the Rupee symbol and the denominational value 125; the reverse bears the portrait of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab with an inscription of the 125th Birth Anniversary and the year 2024. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coin on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab) Rules, 2024. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Denomination of coin.- The coin of One Hundred Twenty Five Rupees denomination shall be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab. 3. Design: The design of the coin shall be as specified in the First Schedule to these rules. 5. Standard weight and remedy allowed:- The standard weight of the coin of denomination referred in rule 2 shall be coined to commemorate the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab and the remedy allowed in making of such coin shall be as specified in the Second Schedule to these rules. THE FIRST SCHEDULE [See rule 4] ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “सत्यमेव जयते” inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devnagari script and on the right periphery with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “*” and denominational value "125" in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol. REVERSE: This face of coin shall bear the portrait of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab in the centre of the coin. The inscription “डॉ. हरेकृष्ण महताब की 125वीं जयंती” shall be written in Devnagari script on the upper periphery and the inscription “125TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. HAREKRUSHNA MAHTAB” in English is depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year "2024" in international numeral shall be written below the portrait of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab.
