No. 1 as Sl. No. 1A and inserting a new Sl. No. 1 imposing a 50% export duty on Onions (tariff item 0703 10); second, Notification No. 48/2023-Customs, G.S.R. 617(E), under sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), exempts onions (0703 10) from so much of the customs export duty as is in excess of 40%, effective immediately and remaining in force up to and including 31st December, 2023, thereby capping the effective export duty on onions at 40% for that period; both notifications are signed by Amreeta Titus, Deputy Secretary, under File No. 190354/158/2023-TRU.

MINISTRY OF FINANCE (Department of Revenue) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 19th August, 2023 No. 47/2023 -Customs G.S.R. 616(E).—Whereas, the Central Government is satisfied that export duty should be levied on certain articles and that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub -section (1) of section 8 of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975)(hereinafter referred to as the Customs Tariff Act), the Central Government, hereby directs that the Second Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act shall be amended in the fo llowing manner, namely: - In the Second Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, Sl. No. 1 shall be re -numbered as Sl. No. 1A, and before Sl. No. 1A as so re -numbered, the following serial number and entries shall be inserted, namely: - (1) (2) (3) (4) “1. 0703 10 Onions 50%”. [F. (1) (2) (3) (4) 1. 0703 10 प्याि 40% NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 19th August, 2023 No. 48/2023 -Customs G.S.R. 617(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub -section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby exempts the goods of the description specified in column (3) of the Table below, falling within the Chapter, heading, sub –heading or tariff item of the Second Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975), specified in the corresponding entry in column (2) of the s aid Table, when exported out of India, from so much of the duty of customs leviable thereon under the said Second Schedule as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate of duty specified in the corresponding entry in column (4) of the said Table, na mely: – TABLE Sl.
