The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce), acting under powers conferred by Section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963 (22 of 1963) and after consulting the Export Inspection Council, issued Order S.O. 3228(E) on July 15, 2025. This Order amends the previous Government of India Order S.O. 2947 (E), dated November 3, 1997. The amendments insert two new clauses: clause (5) prohibits the use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for promoting growth or increasing yield in Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat, and Pigs; and clause (6) prohibits the use of specific categories of antimicrobials, including various antibiotics (such as Carboxypenicillins, Carbapenems, Glycopeptides), antivirals (such as Amantadine, Molnupiravir, Oseltamivir), and antiprotozoals (Nitazoxanide), for treatment in Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat, and Pigs farms from which intestines are procured, or at any stage of production and processing of Animal Casing in establishments. In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963 (22 of 1963), the Central Government, after consulting the Export Inspection Council, hereby makes the following amendments further to amend the Order of the Government of India in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, vide number S.O. 2947 (E), dated the 03rd November, 1997, namely:- In the said Order, after clause (4), the following clauses shall be inserted, namely:- "(5) use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for the purpose of promoting growth or to increase yield shall be prohibited in Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat and Pigs ; (6) the use of any of the following antimicrobials or group of antimicrobials and antimicrobial medicinal product shall be prohibited for treatment in Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat and Pigs farm from where intestines are procured, or at any stage of production and processing of Animal Casing in establishment, namely :- (1) Antibiotics:- (a) Carboxypenicillins (b) Ureidopenicillins (c) Ceftobiprole (d) Ceftaroline (e) Combinations of cephalosporins with beta-lactamase inhibitors (f) Siderophore cephalosporins (g) Carbapenems (h) Penems (i) Monobactams (j) Phosphonic acid derivates (k) Glycopeptides (1) Lipopeptides (m) Oxazolidinones (n) Fidaxomicin (o) Plazomicin (p) Glycylcyclines (q) Eravacycline (r) Omadacycline (2) Antivirals:- (a) Amantadine (b) Baloxavir marboxil (c) Celgosivir (d) Favipiravir (e) Galidesivir (f) Lactimidomycin (g) Laninamivir (h) Methisazone or metisazone (i) Molnupiravir (j) Nitazoxanide (k) Oseltamivir (1) Peramivir (m) Ribavirin (n) Rimantadine (o) Tizoxanide (p) Triazavirin (q) Umifenovir (r) Zanamivir (3) Antiprotozoals:- (a)Nitazoxanide".
