Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Labour and Employment, through Notification S.O. 2442(E) dated 12th May, 2026, issued from New Delhi and signed by Ashutosh A. T. Pednekar, Jt. Secy., announces the appointment of officers as competent authorities. In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (16) of section 2 and section 58 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020), the Central Government designates various Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and Regional Labour Commissioners (Central) to serve as competent authorities for the purposes of Chapter V under the said Code. These appointments apply to all establishments for which the Central Government is the appropriate Government under clause (a) of sub-section (3) of section 2 of the Code. The notification specifies detailed jurisdictions for each appointed officer, covering the whole of India, including numerous states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Goa, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh, along with Union Territories like Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, often specifying particular civil districts within these regions.
