The Ministry of Labour and Employment, by S.O. 2251(E) dated 12 June 2024, exercising powers under the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), issued the Public Utility Services (Sixth Order), 2024, effective from the date of publication, extending for a further six months the declaration that the industry engaged in the processing, production or distribution of fuel gases (coal gas, natural gas and the like), covered under item 29 of the First Schedule to the Act, is a public utility service; the earlier six-month declaration had been made effective from 9 November 2023 vide notification S.O. 4879(E) dated 9 November 2023, and the Central Government found public interest required its further extension; the order (F. L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-12062024-254669 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 2149] NEW DELHI, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2024/JYAISHTHA 22, 1946 3497 GI/2024 MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 12th June, 2024 S.O. 2251(E).-Whereas the Central Government is satisfied that the publicinterest so requires that the services of the industry engaged in the processing orproduction or distribution of fuel gases (coal gas, natural gas and the like), which iscovered under item 29 of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act; And whereas the Central Government has declared the said industryto be public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a period of six monthswith effect from the 9th November, 2023 vide notification of the Government ofIndia in the Ministry of Labour and Employment number S.O. 4879(E), dated the 9th November, 2023; And whereas the Central Government is of the opinion that public interestrequires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for afurther period of six months; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of1947), the Central Government hereby issues the following order as follows: - ORDER 1. Short title and Commencement.- (1) Thisorder may be called thePublic Utility Services (Sixth Order) 2024 (2) It shall come into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. 2. The Central Government hereby declares the services engaged in theprocessing or production or distribution of fuel gases (coal gas, natural gas and thelike) to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a periodof six months with effect from the date of publication of this notification.
