Issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (S.O. 2248(E), Notification dated 12th June 2024), the Central Government, being satisfied that public interest so requires, exercises powers under the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of Section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947) to issue the "Public Utility Services (Ninth Order) 2024," which comes into force on 24th June 2024, extending for a further period of six months the declaration that services engaged in the industry of defence establishments (covered under item 8 of the First Schedule to the Act) constitute a public utility service; this extends the earlier six-month declaration made vide S.O. 5156(E) dated 4th December 2023, which had applied from 24th December 2023.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-12062024-254666 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 2146] NEW DELHI, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2024/JYAISHTHA 22, 1946 MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 12th June, 2024 S.O. 2248(E).—Whereas the Central Government is satisfied that the public interest so requires that the services engaged in the industry of defence establishments, which is covered under item 8 of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act; And whereas the Central Government had declared the said industry to be public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a period of six months from the 24th December, 2023 vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-Section (ii) vide number S.O. 5156 (E), dated the 4th December, 2023; And whereas the Central Government is of the opinion that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for a further period of six months; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), the Central Government hereby issues the following order as follows: - 1. Short title and Commencement. - (1) This order may be called the Public Utility Services (Ninth Order) 2024. (2) It shall come into force on the 24th day of June, 2024. 2. The Central Government hereby declares the services engaged in the industry of defence establishments, to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a further period of six months with effect from 24th June, 2024.
