Detailed Summary

In exercise of powers under the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), the Ministry of Labour and Employment, vide Notification S.O. 5362(E) dated 11th December 2024, extended the declaration of the Banking industry - covered under item 2 of the First Schedule to the Act - as a public utility service for a further period of six months with effect from 15th December 2024. The industry had previously been declared a public utility service for six months from 15th June 2024 vide Notification S.O. 2250(E) dated 12th June 2024. Issued under F. L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-11122024-259343 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 4963] NEW DELHI, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2024 MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 11th December, 2024 S.O. 5362(E).—Whereas the Central Government is satisfied that public interest so requires that the services engaged in the Banking industry, which is covered under item 2 of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act; AND WHEREAS, the Central Government has declared the said industry to be public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a period of six months with effect from the 15th June, 2024 vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Labour and Employment number S.O. 2250(E), dated the 12th June, 2024; AND WHEREAS, the Central Government is of the opinion that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for a further period of six months; NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), the Central Government hereby declares the services engaged in the Banking industry to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a further period of six months with effect from the 15th December, 2024.
