The Ministry of Defence (Department of Military Affairs), through Notification S.R.O. 9(E) dated 6th May, 2025, in exercise of powers conferred by Rule 33 of the Territorial Army Rule 1948, empowers the Central Government to authorise the Chief of the Army Staff to call out every officer and enrolled person of the Territorial Army and to embody them for essential guard or for supporting/supplementing the regular army. Specifically, this includes the embodiment of 14 Infantry Battalions (Territorial Army) out of the existing 32, for deployment in the areas of Southern, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern, South Western, Andaman and Nicobar, and Army Training Commands (ARTRAC). The embodiment is conditional on fund availability in the budget or through re-appropriation; costs for units embodied at the behest of Ministries other than Defence will be debited to those respective Ministries. L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-09052025-262992 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 4 PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 9] NEW DELHI, THURSDAY, MAY 8, 2025/VAISAKHA 18, 1947 3031 GI/2025 (1) MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (Department of Military Affairs) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 6th May, 2025 S.R.O. 9(E).β€”In exercise of the powers conferred by Rule - 33 of the Territorial Army Rule 1948, the Central Government empowers Chief of the Army Staff to exercise the powers under that rule to call out every officer and every enrolled person of the Territorial Army to provide for essential guard or to be embodied for the purpose of supporting or supplementing the regular army to the extent specified below namely: - (a) Out of the existing 32 Infantry Battalions (Territorial Army), embodiment of 14 Infantry Battalions (Territorial Army) for deployment in the areas of Southern Command, Eastern Command, Western Command, Central Command, Northern Command, South Western Command, Andaman and Nicobar Command and Army Training Command (ARTRAC). (b) The embodiment shall be ordered provided the funds are available in the budget or have been made available by re-appropriation of the internal savings in the budget. For units embodied at the behest of Ministries other than Ministry of Defence, the cost will be debited to the respective Ministries and will not be included in the budget allocation of the Ministry of Defence.
