Detailed Summary

This notification from the Ministry of Defence (S.R.O. 22(E), dated 4th August 2023) constitutes the Cantonment Boards for numerous named cantonments across India, in pursuance of sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Cantonments Act, 2006 (41 of 2006), read with the earlier notification S.R.O. 21(E), dated 3rd August 2023 (published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 4, same date), which had varied certain Cantonment Boards. Each Board is constituted of members under clauses (a), (b) and (c) of sub-section (2) of section 13: the Officer Commanding the Station, the Chief Executive Officer, and a third nominated/elected member (several of these third-member seats are listed as vacant). The notification takes effect from 11th August 2023 and lists members for 56 Cantonment Boards including Agra, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Delhi, Pune, Secunderabad, Lucknow, Varanasi and Wellington.
