NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 2nd December, 2024
S.O. 5178(E). - Whereas, by the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Culture,
Archaeological Survey of India, number S.O. 3036(E), dated the 25th July, 2024, published in the Gazette of India,
Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii), dated the 30th July 2024, the Central Government, in exercise of the
powers conferred by section 35 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (24 of
1958), gave two months' notice of its intension to declare that the monument, namely, the Nicholson Statue and its
platform, and the surrounding gardens, paths and enclosure wall, outside the Kashmiri gate, Delhi, which was declared
protected vide notification No. 9058-Education, dated the 11th December 1913, published in the Gazette of India,
Calcutta, dated the 20th December 1913, has ceased to be of national importance;
And whereas copies of the aforesaid notification were made available to the public on the 30th July, 2024;
And whereas no objections were received from the public to the making of such declaration by the Central
Government.
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 35 of the Ancient Monuments and
Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, the Central Government hereby declare that the monument, namely, the
Nicholson Statue and its platform, and the surrounding gardens, paths and enclosure wall, outside the Kashmiri gate,
Delhi has ceased to be of national importance for the purposes of the said Act.
