The Ministry of Labour and Employment, in notification S.O. 3096(E) dated 2nd August 2024, exercises powers under the proviso to sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of Section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947) to extend, for a further period of six months from 4th August 2024, the public utility service status of industries engaged in Manufacturing of Alumina and Aluminium and Mining of Bauxite, covered under items 30 and 31 respectively of the First Schedule to the said Act. The notification recites that the Central Government had earlier declared this status for six months with effect from 4th February 2024 vide notification S.O. 422(E) dated 2nd February 2024, and that public interest requires its further extension. WHERAS the Central Government is satisfied that public interest so requires that the services of industries engaged in Manufacturing of Alumina and Aluminium and Mining of Bauxite, which are covered under items 30 and 31, respectively, of the First Schedule to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of 1947), to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act; And whereas the Central Government has lastly declared the said industrial undertaking to be public utility service for the purposes of the said Act for a period of six months with effect from the 4th February, 2024, vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, number S.O. 422(E), dated the 2nd February, 2024; And whereas the Central Government is of the opinion that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for afurther period of six months; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub- clause (vi) of clause (n) of section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (14 of1947), the Central Government hereby extends the period specified in the notification number S.O.422(E), dated the 2nd February, 2024 for a further period of six month from the 4th August, 2024 during which the services engaged in thesaid industries to be a public utility service for the purposes of the said Act.
