Core Purpose

Amendment to a previous Order concerning quality control and inspection of exports, specifically prohibiting certain substances in fish and fishery products.

Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce), in exercise of powers conferred by section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963, and after consulting the Export Inspection Council, issues this Order to further amend the Order number S. O. 729 (E), dated 21st August, 1995. The amendment involves inserting new clauses (j) and (k) into Schedule I of the said Order. Clause (j) prohibits the use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for promoting growth or increasing yield. Clause (k) specifically prohibits the use of a detailed list of antibiotics, antivirals, and antiprotozoals in the culture, hatcheries, feed manufacturing units, or preprocessing/processing units for shrimps, prawns, and any other variety of fish and fishery products. This aims to regulate the use of such substances in products intended for export.
