No. 39-12/2023 -CU-I.— dated 13.11.2023. In exercise of the powers conferred under sub -section (2) of Section No.26 of the Pondicherry University Act 1985, (No.53 of 1985), the Executive Council with the assent of the Visitor, hereby makes the following amendments to Statute 1 of the Pondicherry University Act 1985. Statute No. Existing Version Approved Amended Version 1(1) The Chancellor shall be appointed by the Visitor of Pondicherry University from a panel of not less than three persons recommended by the Executive Council from amongst persons of eminence in the academic or public life of the country The Vice -President of India shall be the ex -officio Chancellor of the Pondicherry University Proviso to 1(1) Provided that if the Visitor does not approve of any of the persons so recommended, he may call for fresh recommendations from the Executive Council Deleted 1. (i) This Statute may be called as the Pondicherry University (Amendment) Statutes 2023. (ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Statutes of Pondicherry University , 1985, In Clause 1 of Statute 1: (a) Under the Schedule (See Section 26(1), the Statutes of the University clause 1 of Statue 1 shall be deleted and in lieu thereof entries shall be inserted as “the Vice President of India shall be the ex officio Chancellor of the Pondicherry University” & under the Statutes of the University Proviso to clause 1 of Statute 1 shall be DELETED” Prof. D. LAZAR , Registrar (i/c) [ADVT. -III/4/Exty./ 592/2023 -24] Note: 1) Under the Statutes of the University 1(1) is deleted and the word “the Vice President of India shall be the ex officio Chancellor of the Pondicherry University” is INSERTED. 2) Under the Statutes of the University Proviso to 1(1) is DELETED. 3) Statutes of the Pondicherry University Act, 1985 were publishe d along with the PU Act 1985 as a Schedule annexed to that Act and were last amended F.No.39 -12/2023 -CU-I dated 13.11.2023.
