The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, through Notification S.O. 3473(E) issued in New Delhi on June 27, 2026, announced the constitution of a new body named the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS). This action is taken by the Central Government in exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 13 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025 (24 of 2025). The BoPS is established for the security of vessels and port facilities and becomes effective from the date of publication of this notification. The Director General of Maritime Administration will head the BoPS, designated as the Director General of BoPS, until further orders. The notification was signed by Mukesh Mangal, Addl. Secy.
