As per the revised statute, the Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a term of five years from the date of entering office or until attaining the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, and is eligible for re-appointment for another term. A proviso states that notwithstanding the expiry of the five-year period, the Vice Chancellor shall continue in office until a successor is appointed and assumes office. A further proviso allows the Visitor to direct any Vice Chancellor, whose term has expired, to continue in office for a specified period not exceeding a total of one year.
