The amendments include two key changes: Firstly, in rule 93, sub-rule (1)(B), item (i) is substituted to clarify that a rear-view mirror, devices for indirect vision, guard rail, direction indicator, rub-rail (maximum 20mm thickness), side foot step, or sensors along with their casing for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (such as Blind Spot Information System, Moving Off Information system) shall not be considered in measuring a motor vehicle's overall width, provided these devices are within prescribed dimensions if specified in respective standards. Secondly, in rule 96, a new sub-rule (12) is inserted, mandating that all M2, M3, N2, and N3 category vehicles manufactured on or after 1st January 2027 (for new models) and 1st October 2027 (for all models) must be fitted with Vehicle Stability Function as per IS 11852:2019 and Advanced Emergency Braking Systems as per AIS-162 (as amended), until corresponding BIS specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986).

In the said notification, following shall be substituted:- (i) in rule 93, in sub-rule (1)(B), for item (i), following item (i) shall be substituted, namely: - "A rear-view mirror, or devices for indirect vision, or guard rail or a direction indicator or rub-rail (rubber beading) having maximum thickness of 20 millimeter on each side of the body or side foot step, or sensors along with their casing used for advanced driver assistance systems such as Blind Spot Information System, moving Off Information system, etc., shall not be taken into consideration in measuring the overall width of a motor vehicle and the above devices shall be within the prescribed dimension if so specified in the respective standards".
