The Rajya Sabha Secretariat, under the authority of the Joint Committee of Houses of Parliament, announces increased financial allowances for Members of Parliament. Effective April 1, 2023, the Constituency Allowance is revised to Rupees eighty-seven thousand per month. Office Expense Allowance is increased to Rupees fifty thousand per month for engaging a computer literate person and Rupees twenty-five thousand per month for stationery. The one-time monetary ceiling for furniture is set at Rupees One lakh for durable and Rupees twenty-five thousand for non-durable items. These revisions are based on the Cost Inflation Index and are made in accordance with the Members of Parliament (Constituency Allowance) Rules, 1986, Members of Parliament (Office Expense Allowance) Rules, 1988 and Housing and Telephone Facilities (Members of Parliament) Rules, 1956 under the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 and the Income-tax Act, 1961.
