Amends the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur Statutes, 2017, primarily regarding filling the Chairperson vacancy and omitting a sub-statute.

Detailed Summary

This notification, issued by the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur under powers granted by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007, amends the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur Statutes, 2017. The amendment, titled the Statutes of the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (Amendment) Statute, 2025, comes into force upon publication in the Official Gazette. The key change involves inserting a new sub-statute (v) into Statute 14 of the 2017 Statutes. This addition provides provisions for handling vacancies in the office of the Chairperson of the Board of Governors due to tenure expiry, death, resignation, or other reasons, or when the Chairperson is unable to discharge their functions. It allows the Chairperson of another Institute of National Importance, with the Visitor's approval, to temporarily perform these functions for a period of up to six months or until a regular Chairperson is nominated, whichever is earlier. The Visitor is also empowered to extend the term of an incumbent Chairperson whose tenure has expired under the same conditions. Furthermore, sub-statute (15) of Statute 17 in the principal Statutes (2017) is omitted. The notification notes that the principal Statutes were published in the Gazette of India on 23rd April, 2009 and subsequently amended by various notifications.
