Core Purpose

Notification amending the Delhi University Statutes, 1922 to change the tenure and re-appointment eligibility of the Vice-Chancellor.

Detailed Summary

Issued by the Department of Higher Education, University of Delhi, under F. No. 4-1/2023-CU.II dated 17th October 2023, in exercise of powers under sub-sections (2) and (3) of Section 29 of the Delhi University Act, 1922 (VIII of 1922), the Executive Council, with approval of the Visitor, made the Delhi University (Amendment) Statutes, 2023, effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. The amendment substitutes Statute 11-F(4) of the Delhi University Statutes, 1922: previously the Vice-Chancellor held office for a five-year term and was not eligible for re-appointment (subject to provisos allowing continuation until a successor took office, an extension of up to one year directed by the Visitor, and a maximum age of 70 years); the amended provision now states the Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a term of five years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term, with the other provisos unchanged. The notification, under Advt.-III/4/Exty./497/2023-24, is signed by Vikas Gupta, Registrar.
