The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, through Notification S.O. 952(E) dated 19th February, 2026, exercised powers conferred by section 162 read with sub-section (4) of section 215 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), to introduce the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims (Amendment) Scheme, 2026. This amending scheme, which comes into force on its publication date in the Official Gazette, modifies the principal Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025 (published vide notification S.O. 2015(E) dated 5th May, 2025). Specifically, in paragraph 1, sub-paragraph (1) of the 2025 Scheme, the words "Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme" are substituted with "Prime Minister - Road Accident Victims' Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme". Short title and commencement - (1) These Scheme may be called the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims (Amendment) Scheme, 2026. (2) It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025, in paragraph 1, in sub-paragraph (1), for the words "Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme", the words, brackets and letters "Prime Minister - Road Accident Victims' Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme" shall be substituted.
