NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 14th May, 2026
G.S.R. 382(E). -The following draft of certain rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules,
1989, which the Central Government proposes to make in exercise of the powers conferred by section 110 of the
Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), is hereby published as required by sub-section (1) of section 212 of the said
Act, for information of all persons likely to be affected thereby; and notice is hereby given that the said draft rules will
be taken into consideration after the expiry of thirty days from the date on which the copies of this notification as
published in the Gazette of India, are made available to the public;
The objections or suggestions which may be received from any person in respect of the said draft rules before
the expiry of the aforesaid period will be considered by the Central Government.
Objections and suggestions to these draft rules, if any, may be sent to the Additional Secretary (MVL,

Draft Rules
1. Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (..........
Amendment) Rules, 2026.
(2) Save as otherwise provided in these rules, they shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the
Official Gazette.

2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred as the said rules), for the existing rule 125-F, the
following shall be substituted, namely;
"125-F. Type Approval of Road Ambulances of Vehicle Categories L and M.-
1. Road Ambulances of categories L and M manufactured on and after 1st April 2018, shall be in accordance with
AIS 125 (Part 1)-2014, as amended from time to time, for all ambulances specified therein.

Road ambulances of category M of Type B, Type C and Type D, manufactured on and after three months from
the date of the final notification, shall be equipped with emergency and safety/rescue equipment as specified in
AIS 125 (Part 1), as amended from time to time.
All Pure Electric Road Ambulances (E-Ambulances), manufactured on and after 1st October 2026, shall be
equipped with additional batteries to power the medical devices carried on board. The specifications of
additional batteries shall be as specified in AIS 125 (Part 1), as amended from time to time. "
