According to the proposed changes, road ambulances of categories L and M manufactured on or after 1st April 2018 must comply with AIS 125 (Part 1)-2014, as amended. Road ambulances of category M (Type B, Type C, and Type D) manufactured three months after the date of final notification must be equipped with emergency and safety/rescue equipment as specified in AIS 125 (Part 1). Furthermore, all Pure Electric Road Ambulances (E-Ambulances) manufactured on or after 1st October 2026 must be equipped with additional batteries to power medical devices, with specifications as per AIS 125 (Part 1). The Central Government invites objections or suggestions on these draft rules within thirty days from the notification's publication in the Gazette of India. Short title and commencement. — (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (.......... Amendment) Rules, 2026. (2) Save as otherwise provided in these rules, they shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette. THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY 3 2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred as the said rules), for the existing rule 125-F, the following shall be substituted, namely; "125-F. Type Approval of Road Ambulances of Vehicle Categories L and M.- 1. Road Ambulances of categories L and M manufactured on and after 1st April 2018, shall be in accordance with AIS 125 (Part 1)-2014, as amended from time to time, for all ambulances specified therein. 2. 3. Road ambulances of category M of Type B, Type C and Type D, manufactured on and after three months from the date of the final notification, shall be equipped with emergency and safety/rescue equipment as specified in AIS 125 (Part 1), as amended from time to time. All Pure Electric Road Ambulances (E-Ambulances), manufactured on and after 1st October 2026, shall be equipped with additional batteries to power the medical devices carried on board.
