Direct recruits must not exceed 30 years of age (relaxable for Government servants up to 5 years) and possess a Master's Degree in Physics or a Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Instrumentation Engineering from a recognised University or Institution. The probation period is two years, with a mandatory two-week induction training. Recruitment is primarily by direct recruitment, but vacancies lasting one year or more can be filled on deputation from Central/State/Union Territory officers meeting specific service and qualification criteria. Disqualification rules apply to persons involved in bigamous marriages, with a provision for Central Government exemption. The Central Government also retains the power to relax any rule provision in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission. A Group 'B' Departmental Confirmation Committee, comprising the Additional Secretary or Joint Secretary In-charge of Administration (Chairperson), Director (Legal Metrology), and Deputy Secretary or Director In-charge of Administration, is responsible for confirmation, and Union Public Service Commission consultation is not necessary for recruitment. The rules also include savings clauses for reservations and concessions for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, ex-servicemen, and other special categories. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Department of Consumer Affairs, Metrological Assistant Recruitment Rules, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Number of posts, classification and pay level in pay matrix.- The number of the said posts, their classification and pay level in the pay matrix attached thereto shall be as specified in columns (2) to (4) of the Schedule annexed to these rules. 3. Methods of recruitment, age limit, and qualifications, etc.– The method of recruitment to the said post, age limit, qualifications and other matters relating thereto shall be as specified in columns (5) to (13) of the Schedule aforesaid. 4. Disqualification.- No person, (a) who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or (b) who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person, shall be eligible for appointment to the said posts : Provided that the Central Government may, if satisfied that such marriage is permissible under the personal law applicable to such person and the other party to the marriage and there are other grounds for so doing, exempt any person from the operation of this rule. 5. Power to relax.– Where the Central Government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient so to do, it may, by order, and for reasons to be recorded in writing and in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission relax any of the provisions of these rules with respect to any class or category of persons. 6. Saving.- Nothing in these rules shall affect reservation, relaxation of age limit and other concessions required to be provided for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, the Other Backward Classes, ex-servicemen and other special categories of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from time to time in this regard.
