The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, through Notification S.O. 278(E) dated 20th January, 2026, declares the acquisition of land specified in the annexed Schedule. This follows an earlier notification, S.O. 2817(E) dated 24th June, 2025, issued under sub-section (1) of section 3A of the National Highway Act, 1956 (48 of 1956), which declared the Central Government's intention to acquire land for the widening/four-laning, maintenance, management, and operation of NH217 in the stretch from Km. 15.07 to Km. 40.84 in the East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. The substance of the previous notification was published on 8th July, 2025, in The Shillong Times & Salantini Janera, as per sub-section (3) of section 3A. The Competent Authority considered and settled objections filed under Section 3-C and submitted its report to the Central Government under sub-section (1) of section 3D. Consequently, upon publication of this notification in the Official Gazette, the land, totaling 0.748195 Hectares across villages like Rongmil, Rogu Alda, Gabil Daningka, Rangberum, Aragittim, Rongjeng Songma, Upper Rongjeng, Darusak, Milawe, and Darugre Songma in Rongjeng C & RD Block and Dambo Rongjeng Taluks, shall vest absolutely in the Central Government, free from all encumbrances, as per sub-section (2) of section 3D of the said Act.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-20012026-269466 EXTRAORDINARY PART IIโ€”Section 3โ€”Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 250] NEW DELHI, TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2026/PAUSHA 30, 1947 MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 20th January, 2026 S.O. 278(E).โ€” Whereas by the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, S.O.2817 (E) Dated:24/06/2025 , published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii) issued under sub-section (1) of section 3A of the National Highway Act, 1956 (48 of 1956) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), the Central Government declared its intension to acquire the land specified in the Schedule annexed to the said notification for building (widening/four-laning, etc.), maintenance, management and operation of NH217 in the stretch of land from Km. 15.07 to Km. 40.84 in the district of East Garo Hills in the state of MEGHALAYA; And whereas the substance of the said notification has been published in 8th July,2025 in The Shillong Times & Salantini Janera ; under sub-section (3) of section 3A of the said Act; And whereas the Competent Authority has received objections filed under Section 3-C, considered and settled the same appropriately; And whereas, in pursuance of sub-section (1) of section 3D of the said Act, the competent authority has submitted its report to the Central Government; Now, therefore, upon receipt of the said report of the competent authority and in exercise of the powers conferred by the sub-section (1) of section 3D of the said Act, the Central Government hereby declares that the land specified in the said Schedule should be acquired for the aforesaid purpose; And further, in pursuance of sub-section (2) of section 3D of the said Act, the Central Government hereby declares that on publication of this notification in the Official Gazette, the land specified in the said Schedule shall vest absolutely in the Central Government, free from all encumbrances.
