These Statutes, effective from their publication date in the Official Gazette (July 16, 2025), amend the National Institute of Technology, Agartala Statutes, 2017 (principal Statutes). Specifically, a new sub-statute (v) is inserted after sub-statute (iv) in Statute 14, detailing procedures for vacancies in the office of the Chairperson of the Board of Governors due to tenure expiry, death, resignation, or inability to discharge functions. It allows the Chairperson of an Institute of National Importance to temporarily discharge these functions for six months or until a regular Chairperson is nominated, whichever is earlier, with the Visitor's approval, as per Section 16 of the Act. For tenure expiry, the Visitor may extend the incumbent's term for the same duration. Additionally, sub-statute (15) of Statute 17 in the principal Statutes is omitted. The principal Statutes were originally published via G.S.R.280 (E) dated 23rd April, 2009, and subsequently amended by G.S.R.837 (E) dated 15th October, 2015, S.O.947(E) dated 21st July, 2017, and F.No.NITA.2 (613-Estt)/STATUTES/2023 dated 6th October, 2023. L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-18072025-264776 EXTRAORDINARY PART III—Section 4 PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 512] NEW DELHI, WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2025/ASHADHA 25, 1947 NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, AGARTALA NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 17th March, 2025 F.No. NITA.2(613-Estt)/ STATUTES/ 2023.— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 26 of the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007 (29 of 2007), with the approval of the Visitor of the National Institute of Technology, Agartala, the Board of the National Institute of Technology, Agartala, hereby makes the following Statutes to amend the National Institute of Technology, Agartala Statutes, 2017 namely:— 1. (1) These Statutes may be called the Statutes of the National Institute of Technology, Agartala (Amendment) Statute, 2025. (2) They shall apply to the National Institute of Technology, Agartala. (3) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Statutes of National Institute of Technology, Agartala Statutes, 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Statutes), in Statute 14, after sub-statute (iv), the following sub-statute shall be inserted, namely— “(v) In the event of occurrence of any vacancy in the office of the Chairperson of Board of Governors by reason of expiry of his or her tenure, death, resignation or otherwise or in the event of the Chairperson being unable to discharge his or her functions owing to absence, illness or any other cause, the Chairperson of an Institute of National Importance, may discharge the functions assigned to the Chairperson under Section 16 of the Act, for a period of six months or till the nomination of a regular Chairperson, whichever is earlier, with the approval of the Visitor and in case of expiry of tenure, the Visitor may extend the term of the incumbent Chairperson for a period of six months or till the nomination of a regular Chairperson, whichever is earlier." 3. In the principal Statutes, in Statute 17, sub-statute (15) shall be omitted.
