MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE
NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 15th January, 2025
S.O. 289(E)- WHEREAS the Central Government established the National Biodiversity Authority under
sub-sections (1) and (4) of section 4 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (18 of 2003) vide notification number
S.O. 1147(E), dated the 1st October, 2003 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section 3, Sub-
section (ii);
AND WHEREAS the Central Government has issued various notification in this regard to appoint the
members of the Authority from time to time;
NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of section 8 of the Biological
Diversity Act, 2002 (18 of 2003), the Central Government hereby appoints the following members to the National
Biodiversity Authority and for that purpose makes the following further amendment in the notification of the
Government of India in the erstwhile Ministry of Environment and Forests number S.O. 1147 (E), dated the 1st
October, 2003, namely:-

In the said notification, for serial numbers (1) to (16) and the entries relating thereto, the following
serial numbers and entries shall be substituted, namely:-
Member appointed as a Chairperson under clause (a) of sub- section (4) of section 8:
(1) Shri C. Achalender Reddy, Chairperson (upto 01.07.2025)
Ex officio members appointed under clause (b) of sub-section (4) of section 8:
(2) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Agricultural Research and
Education in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare;
(3) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
in the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare;
(4) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa
Rigpa, Yoga and Naturopathy and Homoeopathy in the Ministry of AYUSH;
(5) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Biotechnology in the Department
of Biotechnology;
(6) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Environment and Climate
Change in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change;
(7) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Forests and Wildlife in the
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change;
(8) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Indian Council of Forestry
Research and Education in the Ministry if Environment, Forest and Climate change;
(9) Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Earth Sciences;
(10) Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj;
(11) Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Science and Technology in
the Ministry of Science and Technology;
(12) Joint Secretary to the Government of India dealing with the Scientific and Industrial
Research in the Ministry of Science and Technology;
(13) Joint Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs;
Members appointed on Annual rotational basis under clause(c) of sub-section (4) of section 8:
(14) Member-Secretary, State Biodiversity Board of Rajasthan.
(15) Member-Secretary, State Biodiversity Board of Arunachal Pradesh.
(16) Member-Secretary, State Biodiversity Board of Tamil Nadu.
(17) Member-Secretary, Union territory Biodiversity Council of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Non official members under clause (d) of sub-section (4)of section 8:
(18) Dr. Alka Rao (upto 05.09.2026)
(19) Dr. Joy Kumar Meiteilaishram (upto 05.09.2026)
