The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce), under S.O. 3226(E) dated 15th July, 2025, issued an order exercising powers conferred by Section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963 (22 of 1963). This order, made after consulting the Export Inspection Council, further amends the Government of India's Order vide number S.O. 1377 (E), dated 30th December, 2002. The amendments insert two new clauses: clause (5) prohibits the use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for growth promotion or to increase yield in the rearing of poultry birds. Clause (6) prohibits the use of specific antimicrobials or groups of antimicrobials and antimicrobial medicinal products for treatment in poultry farms from where birds are procured, or at any stage of production and processing of Poultry Meat and Poultry Meat products. The prohibited substances include 18 types of Antibiotics (e.g., Carboxypenicillins, Ceftobiprole, Carbapenems, Glycopeptides, Oxazolidinones), 18 types of Antivirals (e.g., Amantadine, Favipiravir, Oseltamivir, Ribavirin), and Nitazoxanide under Antiprotozoals. In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963 (22 of 1963), the Central Government, after consulting the Export Inspection Council, hereby makes the following amendments further to amend the Order of the Government of India in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, vide number S.O. 1377 (E), dated the 30th December, 2002, namely: - In the said Order, after clause (4), the following clauses shall be inserted, namely:- (5) use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for the purpose of promoting growth or to increase yield shall be prohibited in rearing of poultry birds; (6) the use of any of the following antimicrobials or group of antimicrobials and antimicrobial medicinal product shall be prohibited for treatment in Poultry farm from where birds are procured, or at any stage of production and processing of Poultry Meat and Poultry Meat products in establishment, namely:- (1) Antibiotics:- (a) Carboxypenicillins (b) Ureidopenicillins (c) Ceftobiprole (d) Ceftaroline (e) Combinations of cephalosporins with beta-lactamase inhibitors (f) Siderophore cephalosporins (g) Carbapenems (h) Penems (i) Monobactams (j) Phosphonic acid derivates (k) Glycopeptides (1) Lipopeptides (m) Oxazolidinones (n) Fidaxomicin (o) Plazomicin (p) Glycylcyclines (q) Eravacycline (r) Omadacycline (2) Antivirals:- (a) Amantadine (b) Baloxavir marboxil (c) Celgosivir (d) Favipiravir (e) Galidesivir (f) Lactimidomycin (g) Laninamivir (h) Methisazone or metisazone (i) Molnupiravir (j) Nitazoxanide (k) Oseltamivir (1) Peramivir (m) Ribavirin (n) Rimantadine (o) Tizoxanide (p) Triazavirin (q) Umifenovir (r) Zanamivir (3) Antiprotozoals:- (a) Nitazoxanide."
