Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce) issued Order S.O. 3227(E) on July 15, 2025, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 6 of the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963 (22 of 1963). After consulting the Export Inspection Council, the Central Government has made further amendments to the principal Order S.O. 276 (E) dated 04th March, 2002, which was previously amended by S.O. 1441(E) dated 19th December, 2003. The current amendment inserts new clauses (2.0) and (2.1) into the APPENDIX after clause (1.8) of the said Order. Clause (2.0) explicitly prohibits the use of any antimicrobial medicinal product for the purpose of promoting growth or increasing yield in beekeeping farms. Clause (2.1) prohibits the use of a comprehensive list of antimicrobials and antimicrobial medicinal products for the treatment of honey bees from which honey is procured, or at any stage of honey production and processing. This prohibited list includes various Antibiotics (e.g., Carboxypenicillins, Ceftobiprole, Carbapenems, Glycopeptides, Fidaxomicin), Antivirals (e.g., Amantadine, Favipiravir, Molnupiravir, Oseltamivir, Zanamivir), and Antiprotozoals (Nitazoxanide).
