Short title and commencement. - (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (............. Amendment) Rules, 2026. (2) Save as otherwise provided in these rules, they shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred as the said rules), in Rule 125-C, after sub- rule (7), the following sub-rule shall be inserted namely:- "(8) All Type-I buses, on and after 1st April 2026 in case of new models and 1st October 2026 in case of all models, shall conform to the requirements of AIS-216, as amended from time to time. Provided that on and after 1st October 2026, all Type-I buses, as specified in sub-rule (8) above, with length 9 m and above, shall have floor height of 400 mm. Provided also that the sub-rule (8) above, shall be applicable only to Type-I buses falling under the category of public service vehicles, as defined under clause (35) of section 2 of the Act." [F.
