Detailed Summary

Under Section 3 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992), read with paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce), through S.O. 2754(E) dated 5 July 2024, amends Notification No. 52/2023 dated 12.12.2023 with immediate effect, revising the policy conditions at Serial No. 55 (Non-Basmati Rice, Tariff items 1006 2000/1006 30/1006 3010/1006 3090/1006 40 00) and Serial No. 57 (Basmati Rice, Tariff item 10063020) of Chapter 10, Schedule-2 of the ITC(HS) Export Policy, 2018. Under the revised conditions, export of Basmati and Non-Basmati rice to EU Member States and to United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland continues to require a Certificate of Inspection from the Export Inspection Council/Export Inspection Agency, while such certification is not mandatory for exports to the remaining European countries for a period of six months from the date of the notification. Effect of notification: Existing notification No. 52/2023 dated 12.12.2023 is amended to the extent that export of Rice (Basmati and Non- Basmati) to EU member states and other European Countries namely United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland only will require Certificate of Inspection from EIC/EIAs.
