The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, through Notification S.O. 3740(E) dated 13th August, 2025, constitutes the Adjudicatory Board for Major Ports. This action is taken by the Central Government in pursuance of sub-sections (1) and (2) of Section 54 and Section 55 of the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 (1 of 2021). The newly constituted Board comprises a Presiding Officer, Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai (former Chief Justice, Kerala High Court), and two Members: Shri Chirravuri Viswanath (former Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, and former Member, National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission) and Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan (former Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Technical Member, National Company Law Tribunal). The head office of the Adjudicatory Board for Major Ports shall be located at Mumbai. Concurrently, the Tariff Authority for Major Ports, which was constituted under Section 47A of the erstwhile Major Port Trusts Act, 1963, will cease to exist from the date of the Adjudicatory Board's constitution. The Adjudicatory Board for Major Ports will come into force from the date of publication of this notification in the official Gazette.
