The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), with the previous approval of the Central Government and in exercise of powers conferred by section 35 read with clause (g) of sub-section (1) and clause (g) of sub-section (2) of section 14 of the Inland Waterways Authority of India Act, 1985 (82 of 1985), hereby issues the Inland Waterways Authority of India (Classification of Inland Waterways in India) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025. These regulations, effective from their publication date in the Official Gazette, amend the principal regulations published vide notification F.No.IWAI / NW- 5/20/2016-17 (Part) dated 15th November, 2022. Specifically, sub-regulation (4) of regulation 3 in the 2022 Regulations is substituted to mandate minimum distances from the navigation channel for the construction of water intake, berthing jetties, or floating terminals. The specified distances are: 7.5 metres for Class-I national waterways, 12 metres for Class-II, 13.5 metres for Class-III, 18 metres for Class-IV, 36 metres for Class-V, and 42 metres for both Class-VI and Class-VII national waterways. This notification is dated 7th July, 2025, and bears reference F.No. IWAI-15019/2/2022-Hy.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 35 read with clause (g) of sub-section (1) and clause (g) of sub-section (2), of section 14 of the Inland Waterways Authority of India Act, 1985 (82 of 1985), the Authority with the previous approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the following regulations to amend the Inland Waterways Authority of India (Classification of Inland Waterways in India) Regulations 2022, namely: 1. (1) These regulations may be called the Inland Waterways Authority of India (Classification of Inland Waterways in India) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2.
