Detailed Summary

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department of Commerce), through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, issued Notification No. 13/2026-27 (S.O. 2223(E)) on April 27, 2026, to amend the Export Policy of Wheat. In exercise of powers conferred by Sections 3 and 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992), read with Paras 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the Central Government has modified Chapter 10 of Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Export Policy. While the export policy for Wheat under HS Codes 10011900 and 10019910 continues to remain 'Prohibited', an additional 25 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of Wheat is now permitted for export. The detailed modalities for this additional export will be specified in a separate Public Notice to be issued by DGFT. Furthermore, the existing policy condition from DGFT Notification No. 06/2015-2020 dated May 13, 2022, continues to apply, allowing exports based on permission granted by the Government of India to other countries to meet their food security needs, upon their government's request, over and above the newly permitted 25 LMT.
