The Bureau of Indian Standards, operating under the Department of Consumer Affairs, issued a notification from New Delhi on October 24, 2025 (Ref: HQ-PUB013/1/2020-PUB-BIS (1353)). In pursuance of Sub-rule (1) of Rule (15) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, this notification establishes twelve new Indian Standards, all effective from October 15, 2025. These include first revisions for IS 2960: 2025 (Bookbinding Leather), IS 9471 (Part 1): 2025 (Modular Lower Limb Orthotic Components - Part 1 Stirrups), IS 16180 (Part 13): 2025 (Fibre Optic Connector Interfaces Part 13 Type FC-PC Connector), and IS 16439: 2025 (Metadata Standard for Geospatial Information), along with a second revision for IS 11646 (Part 1): 2025 (Cane for Persons with Visual Impairment - Part 1 Rigid, Long and White). Concurrently, five previous standards (IS 2960-1964, IS 9471 (Part 1)-1980, IS 11646 (Part 1): 2003, IS 16180 (Part 13): 2018, and IS 16439: 2016) are to be withdrawn on April 15, 2026. Additionally, new standards are established for IS 18651 (Part 14): 2025 (Wheelchairs Power and Control Systems), IS 18888 (Part 2): 2025 (Designing Online Course Contents and Quality Assessment), IS 19386: 2025 (Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Twin - Vocabulary, incorporating ISO/IEC 20924: 2024), IS 19394: 2025 (Digital Twin - Concepts and Terminology, incorporating ISO/IEC 30173: 2023), IS 19395: 2025 (Internet of Things (IoT) - Real-time IoT framework, incorporating ISO/IEC 30165: 2021), IS 19398: 2025 (Internet of Things (IoT) Compatibility Requirements, incorporating ISO/IEC 30162: 2022), and IS 19403: 2025 (Internet of Things (IoT) Trustworthiness principles, incorporating ISO/IEC TS 30149: 2024), with no indicated withdrawal dates for these latter new standards.
