It also specifies fees for alterations, corrections, rectifications, searches, requests for certificates, GI agent registration (1000 rupees), annual continuance of a GI agent (1000 rupees), and additional protection applications (12000 rupees). The draft rules were previously published as G.S.R. 542 (E) on August 11, 2025, inviting public objections and suggestions, which were subsequently considered by the Central Government. The principal rules were originally published as G.S.R. 176(E) on March 8, 2002, and last amended by G.S.R. 528 (E) on August 26, 2020. The new rules come into force on their publication date in the Official Gazette.

L.-33004/99 The Gazette of India CG-DL-E-07112025-267442 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (i) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY NEW DELHI, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2025 MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 3rd November, 2025 G.S.R. 812 (E)— Whereas the draft of certain rules, further to amend the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Rules, 2002 were published as required under sub- section (1) of section 87 of the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 (48 of 1999) (hereinafter referred as “Act') vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) vide number G.S.R. 542 (E), dated the 11th August 2025, in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3,sub-section (i) inviting objections and suggestions from all person likely to be affected thereby before the expiry of a period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the said notification were made available to the public; And whereas, copies of the said notification were made available to the public on the 11th August 2025; And whereas, the objection and suggestions received from the public in respect of the said draft rules have been considered by the Central Government; Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 87 of the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, (48 of 1999), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Rules, 2002, namely: - RULES 1. Short title and commencement.: — (1) These rules may be called the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) (Amendment) Rules, 2025. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2.
