By G.S.R. 682(E) dated 28th October 2024, the Ministry of Communications (Department of Telecommunications), in exercise of powers under section 4 read with section 7 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 (13 of 1885), notifies the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024, effective from the date of publication, substituting sub-rule (2) of rule 9 of the Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules, 2018 to provide that, notwithstanding the minimum height in Indian airspace referred to in sub-rule (1), internet services through Wi-Fi in aircraft shall be made available when electronic devices are permitted to be used in the aircraft; the notification (No. 20-504/2016-AS-I (Pt)) is signed by Sunil Kumar Singhal, Deputy Director General (Licensing Policy), and notes that the principal Rules were published vide G.S.R 1211(E) dated 14th December 2018 and previously amended vide G.S.R 154(E) dated 23rd February 2022.

(1) These rules may be called the Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules, 2018, in rule 9, for sub-rule (2), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely:- “(2) Notwithstanding the minimum height in Indian airspace referred to in sub-rule (1), internet services through Wi-Fi in aircraft shall be made available when electronic devices are permitted to be used in the aircraft."
