Core Purpose

The Central Government issues the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) (Amendment) Order, 2026, to amend the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, by omitting specific paragraphs and renumbering another.

Detailed Summary

The Central Government, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has issued the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) (Amendment) Order, 2026, vide S.O. 3647(E) dated 4th July, 2026. This order amends the principal Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, which was previously published as S.O. 1232(E) dated 9th March, 2026, in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii). The initial order was necessitated by disruptions to liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments through the Strait of Hormuz due to conflict in the Middle East, leading to suppliers invoking force majeure and requiring regulation of natural gas distribution for priority sectors. The amendment is enacted because a ceasefire and negotiations have allowed sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to resume. In exercise of powers conferred by section 3 read with clauses (d) and (f) of sub-section (2) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 (10 of 1955), the amendment specifically omits paragraphs 2 to 6 from the principal order and renumbers paragraph 7 as paragraph 2. This amendment order comes into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
