This notification, issued by Maulana Azad National Urdu University on September 11, 2025 (F. No. MANUU/ER-(B)/F. No. 138) and published in The Gazette of India on October 8, 2025, amends Statutes 12 of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University Act, 1996 (No.2 of 1997). The amendment, which received the President's assent on April 2, 2025, revises the composition of the Executive Council. The Council will now consist of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, the Secretary (Higher Education) of the Ministry of Education, Government of India or their nominee (ex-officio), four Deans of Schools of Studies by rotation, one Professor (not a Dean) by rotation, one Reader/Associate Professor by rotation, one Lecturer/Assistant Professor by rotation, two members of the Court nominated by the Visitor (excluding employees/students/associated institution members), four distinguished persons in academic and public life nominated by the Visitor, and Directors of Women Education and Distance Education appointed by the Vice-Chancellor. All members, except the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and the Secretary (Higher Education) nominee, will hold office for a term of three years. A quorum for Executive Council meetings will be half of the total members, excluding the Chairman. Membership in the Executive Council is automatically terminated if a member becomes a Member of Parliament (Lok/Rajya Sabha) and is subsequently inducted into the cabinet as a Union Minister, Minister of State, Deputy Minister, Speaker/Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, or Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha.

No. MANUU/ER-(B)/F. No. 138.— The following amendment of Statutes 12 of Maulana Azad National Urdu University Act, 1996 (No.2 of 1997) received the assent of the President on the 2nd April, 2025 and hereby published for general information (1) The Executive Council shall consist of the following members, namely: (i). Vice-Chancellor (ii). Pro-Vice Chancellor (iii) The Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Government of India or his/her nominee, ex-officio member. (iv). Four members from among Deans of Schools of Studies, by rotation according to seniority, to be appointed by the Vice Chancellor; (v). One Professor who is not a Dean by rotation according to seniority, to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor; (vi). One Reader/Associate Professor, by rotation according to seniority, to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor (vii). One Lecturer/Assistant Professor, by rotation according to seniority, to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor (viii). Two members of the Court, none of whom shall be an employee or a student of the University or an Institution recognized by or associated with the University, to be nominated by the Visitor; and (ix). Four persons of distinction in academic and public life, to be nominated by the Visitor; (x). Directors of Women Education and Distance Education to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor (2). All the members of the Executive Council, other than the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education, Government of India or his/her nominee, ex-officio member shall hold office for a term of three years. (3). Half of the total members of the Executive Council shall form a quorum for a meeting of the Executive Council excluding the Chairman. (4). If any members of the Executive Council consequent on becoming a Member of Parliament (Lok/Rajya Sabha) is inducted into the cabinet in the capacity of either the Union Minister/Minister of State/Deputy Minister or Speaker/Deputy Speaker, Lok Sabha or Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, his or her nomination/election to the Executive Council of the University shall be deemed to have been terminated.
