Core Purpose

Amends a notification related to the Eco-Sensitive Zone around Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, Maharashtra, by reconstituting the Monitoring Committee and redefining its functions.

Detailed Summary

This notification amends the Indian Government's previous notification S.O. 837(E) dated March 16, 2017, concerning the Eco-Sensitive Zone around Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary. It replaces paragraphs 5 and 6 of the original notification, focusing on the Monitoring Committee. The amendment reconstitutes the Monitoring Committee, specifying its composition with members including Collectors of Nagpur and Bhandara districts, representatives from Zilla Parishads, NGOs, ecology experts, and officials from Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board, Forest Department, and Town Planning. The functions of the Monitoring Committee are detailed, including scrutinizing activities within the Eco-sensitive Zone based on site-specific conditions (excluding prohibited activities), referring cases for environmental clearances to central or state authorities, reviewing non-scheduled activities within the zone, and submitting annual action reports to the Chief Wildlife Warden. The committee is also empowered to invite experts and stakeholders for assistance and the Member-Secretary or designated officials are authorized to file complaints under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 for violations.
