The Central University of Rajasthan, through its Executive Council and with the approval of the Visitor, issued a notification on August 13, 2025, in New Delhi, exercising powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 20 read with sub-section (2) of Section 27 of the Central Universities Act, 2009 (25 of 2009). This notification introduces the Central Universities (Amendment) Statutes (for Central University of Rajasthan), 2025, which will come into force upon publication in the Official Gazette. The primary amendment is to Statute 40, titled "Appointment of Heads of Department." The previous Statute 40 stipulated that the Head of Department would be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor from among Professors by seniority rotation, with provisions for Associate Professors if only one Professor existed or no Professors were present. The amended Statute 40 now allows for the appointment of a Head from both Professors and Associate Professors based on seniority rotation. Furthermore, if a Department has only one or no Professor/Associate Professor, the Head may be appointed from among Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors with at least 8 years of university-level experience, by rotation in order of seniority. If none of these categories are available in a Department, the Dean of the concerned School shall act as the Head. Statute 40 was originally published as a Schedule annexed to the Central Universities Act, 2009, in the Gazette of India, No. 25 of 2009, dated March 20, 2009. Short title and commencement. – (1) These Statutes may be called as the Central Universities (Amendment) Statutes (for Central University of Rajasthan), 2025 (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2.
