Detailed Summary

The notification amends the Government of India's earlier notification S.O. 1565(E), dated 15th May, 2017, concerning the Eco-Sensitive Zone around Yashvantrao Chavan Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra. It reconstitutes the Monitoring Committee by replacing paragraphs 5 and 6 of the original notification. The new committee includes the District Collector of Yavatmal-Sangli as Chairman, representatives from NGOs and ecology experts nominated by the Maharashtra government, and officials from Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board, state environment department, state biodiversity board and Divisional Forest Officer, Sangli. The Monitoring Committee's functions include scrutinizing activities within the Eco-sensitive Zone, based on site-specific conditions and guidelines in notification S.O. 1533 (E) dated 14th September, 2006. It reviews activities for environmental clearances, monitors compliance, and submits annual action reports to the Chief Wildlife Warden. The committee is also empowered to invite experts and file complaints under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 for violations of the notification's provisions.
